Safe Spaces

As a youth pride club teacher I feel like safe spaces have been a big for students to do well with the mindset of having an area to speak their mind and or learn something about themselves they wouldn't have been given the opportunity other wise. Working in a middle school helps me understand how the LGBTQIA+ members may feel with the confusion and disconnect with the world. August discusses that exact disconnect between students and the classroom. "Teachers and peers usher children from the relative protection and insulation of family life into the classroom where (perhaps for the first time) children encounter cultural and ethnic norms different from those of their family", this is exactly how we need to be taught new ideas and systems.

I have learned many emotional pro tips by the website https://safespace.org/

The new generation needs to change for their to be new conversations. We can not teach out students with okld methods when we know technology has changed, the same goes for learning and teaching new methods of human. Yes, human. We are forcing unnecessary gender role rules when there are more than two genders. Especially for students who are younger and feel different from their assigned gender, the idea that they might be a girly boy or a boyish girl is unfair and unreal.
