Understanding the ideas of the America

Quotes from Nicholas Kristof :

"Meanwhile, more children in America live in poverty now (22 percent at last count) than at the start of the financial crisis in 2008 (18 percent). They grow up not in a “land of opportunity,” but in the kind of socially rigid hierarchies that our ancestors fled, the kind of society in which your outcome is largely determined by your beginning."

Kristof focuses on the ideology we have in this country when the reality is so very different and unfair. The belief and process of the system has changed and not necessarily for the best. He speaks on how people will only prosper if their parents have been successful.

"That’s a poverty that is far harder to escape."
When born into poverty it is only harder to get out of it, but not impossible. Kristof explains harder times cause for more work and more effort from the individual. Logically makes sense, those with opportunity can pave the way to make a better tomorrow and money ALWAYS helps.

"Remember that disadvantage is less about income than environment. The best metrics of child poverty aren’t monetary, but rather how often a child is read to or hugged. "

Kristof made my favorite point! A better environment helps for a better future. If a child fells emotionally, educationally safe and is pushed by their family members with moral and actual support that can only improve the child's understanding of work, and working harder.
