On my third visit I went back to the science classroom to help out that teacher, On this day students were a little better with their attitude they were interacting with me along side the teacher and the activity we were doing about rocks. But they kept explaining to me on the side that she doesn’t check off the work that they do, and the teacher losses a lot of their work, which is why they do so poorly in the class. I Spent three periods with them, and then walked into Miss Karinaa‘s office, where the advisory that I had surprisingly “picked up “was waiting for me. Now during my interview Karinaa had explained that I was going to be working with the youth pride club which is an advisory classes during the day. I had misunderstood exactly what I was supposed to do and what Karinaa had explained. So there is a group of 16 girls and boys mainly girls, sitting talking amongst themselves very loudly, One student walks in trying to take control of the class by ordering them to quiet down and sit in one place, this student was 14. A eighth grader I had soon found out,  tried to be the boss or president of this club, yet there was no actual president or structure. This class was once a teacher’s, a few subs here and there, became a volunteer’s class, then became my own. As far as the LGBTQ Community and issues are related I am not the most knowledgeable person. That first class I did it just listen and watch how the student interacted, I introduced myself and asked everybody to do a moo in and moo out, which was a way to introduce yourself and explain your pronoun, and how your day was going. This class was literally mine and another volunteers who really didn’t like to take control and was very shy about that. The other volunteer took attendance and sat in the back while listening to all the conversation. This class was only 35 minutes, most confusing 35 minutes of my day.

So most of the class we just did Introductions, I just explained I was there for a few months and that I was going to be there advisor for the club. I told him that I was going to be as inclusive and active when it came to this class, that they would just have to be patient with me. Once the advisory was over I spoke to the other volunteer and asked what I was to do.Am I supposed to play games with them, am I supposed to do make up lesson plans, am I supposed to have a open conversation every single class and that only. The volunteer did not really know how to answer my questions but said whatever I did today seemed okay.
