TRUE COLORS

True colors is a theater based in Boston that becomes a safe space for LGBTQ students and people. Each students has their own story and experiences they are able to use it as a source of healing. These students have been tossed out of their homes, punished in many ways because they identify themselves as apart of the LGBTQ community. Their performances are a way for the rest of the world/community to learn and change their minds on this specific topic. This is exactly what Delpit has suggested we do in schools, more codes of power means more representation.

The school some of the girls apart of true color  came from felt that their school was safe for them but not for their queer male friends. This safe space theater was actual work. It implemented Johnson's understanding that if we name the problem, think of solutions or ways of conversing it, talk amongst peers and others, and write about each experience and misunderstanding would lead to a better solutions. The theater staff had mentioned being equivalent to youth workers, but I disagree. They are youth workers. They help these kids/ adults in their educational life, their personal life, and their emotional life. They are truly a huge bridge building a connection to those who feel alone or who are alone. They are a family.
